I have to say that I was surprised by how good these chairs looked when we unpacked them. While not an exact match for real oak furniture they don't look too bad. The wood is fine grained and if I had to guess I would say similar to low end mahogony. Due to the way they are designed for assembly they look slightly heavy for true Mission Style.
The chairs arrive in flat cartons and the statement "some assembly required" is a real understatement. If you consider yourself 'handy' you should not have a problem. Some of the fits require furniture clamps in order to get tight joints. I also did not use the little vials of glue that came with the chairs instead opting for a quality wood glue I have used for years. All of the bolt together parts use allen head screws and a little allen wrench came with the chairs. Do yourself a favor and throw the cheap allen wrench away. If you don't already own an appropriate size allen wrench that fits your ratchet wrench, go buy one. For four chairs there are a boatload of screws and you will do a better, faster, less tiring job with real tools. Also, don't stint on the glue. If two pieces of wood touch, use glue, even if they are being screwed together.
I took about 45 minutes to assemble the first chair and about 20 minutes each for the other three.
The seat pads are comfortable and I will have to see how well they hold up.
All in all I am pleased with these chairs and even more important, my wife likes them. If they put off my going with her to antique marts looking for solid oak replacements I will be even more pleased.I purchased two of these chairs with arms along with six with out arm. I do say they take a little bit of work to put together, about 20 minutes per chair. A couple of the chairs took a little longer to assemble as the pilot holes didn't line up well, and one of the chairs was miss-drilled at the factory and they simply placed a 1/4 inch dowel in the hole and the dowel is on a clearly visible part of the chair which looks a little odd. Once together they seem solid enough and should hold up for a long time. The seat cushions are a little firmer than what I'd like but not uncomfortably so.
So I give these chairs 4 stars instead of 5 due to the miss-drilled hole (it was only on one chair) but I feel this flaw should never have made it passed their Quality Inspection and passed on to the customer.

Would have given 5 stars but husband said he didn't like how the screws/bolts aligned fitted just a tad off. Also there was some kind of oil or grease on them that got on our carpet when assembling. We wanted some other similar styled chairs that were Amish made but considering those were $225 ea and these were less than half that, if they hold up well they will be a remarkable savings. They look very nice, are the exact color described, heavy and though assembly does take a while, feel quite sturdy.Read Best Reviews of Set of 2 Dining Chairs Mission Style Warm Medium Oak Finish Here
I love the chairs, although they are a slightly darker oak than I expected and a little complicated to assemble.Want Set of 2 Dining Chairs Mission Style Warm Medium Oak Finish Discount?
Love these chairs! Bought them to replace some old oak spindle chairs, giving my dining area a uplift. I put cloth chairs on the end for a new style look..I then went and ordered two arm chairs in case the days of mix n match become a memory, I'll have a complete set.
Assembly is challenging but the end result is an extremely high end product.
