The headboard is made overseas and comes in modular pieces. The wood is something like burch which is smooth with little grain. It came well packaged and is designed to be put together with a minimum of tools; the tool kit does come with a small nut wrench and allen wrench. A rubber mallet is useful in tapping some pieces in place. The instructions where adequate and I had it together in 20 minutes. Every piece fit together well. There are dowels on some of the pieces that provide alignment while screwing together. You could use wood glue if desired but it's not necessary.
The hardware kit also comes with enough screw/bolts, nuts and nylon washers to connect to a standard bed frame. Our bed is fairly tall so I decided to take an idea from another reviewer and mount the headboard directly to the wall with either long screws if I'm lucky enough to hit a stud but more likely a large butterfly molly bolt. That way, I can get more height and keep the headboard from banging on the wall. All in all, this was a good purchase.
