Silver Screen Twin over Futon Bunk Bed

Dorel Home Products Silver Screen Twin/Futon Bunk BedWe purchased this bed because we have a small house, and needed a guest bed in addition to a larger child's bed. We chose this futon bunk bed for its space-saving features, and the twin-over-full bed style.

This arrived via UPS in a 70+ lb. box that was very large and cumbersome. If you have two stories and a small stairwell, you will not be able to get this box up your stairs. We went through the box and checked off all the parts to ensure everything came with it before we took the pieces upstairs to assemble the bed. With four adults, assembly took about two hours. The directions were very clear and the bed went together without a hitch. The most difficult part of assembly is putting the futon folding mechanism on properly.

This bed is extremely sturdy, with very little wobble, even on our crooked, older floors. The upper bunk can hold 225 lbs. and the lower bunk can hold up to 600 lbs. As an adult, it wouldn't bother me one bit to climb right up to the top bunk and spend the night. We chose a 6" memory foam mattress for the bottom bunk/futon and a regular twin mattress for the top bunk. I was nervous about purchasing this bed, due to a lack of reviews, but rest-assured--it's a solid, well-priced piece of furniture. We would purchase this bed again without hesitation.

This truly is a great find for the price. I've had it for a month already. My 6 yr old son loves it.

It was easy to build, I did this on my own in 3 hrs.

An FYI for those of you wondering (as I was) if you can relocate the ladder, the answer is yes, however, the instructions don't show you how, it wasn't hard to figure out (no drilling required) just use the bottom-left and top-left rails on the right and visa-versa.

The pillars aren't as thick as a wooden frame, which can make the over all frame a bit shaky. Something that is common among all aluminum/steel bunk beds. Hence the reason i gave it 4 stars.

Its a very Nice bed but I will say if your looking for something that doesn't move around much this is not it. Cause if anyone moves rolls over the person on top or bottom know it.

There are a million pieces that go into making this, however, it's worth the effort. Nice and sturdy.

however, I dont know if this is because my bottom futon is too heavy, but its a bit difficult to lift my bed. Make sure your futon for the bottom doesnt weigh too much.

(I'm just nervous when moving out how to take this apart... we'll cross that bridge when we get to it I guess, but for now, it's super sturdy and such.)

I'd recommend!

UPDATE 6/28/2013:

the bed creaks a lot when sleeping on the top or the bottom. I'm unsure how to make it creak less.

Do you understand how difficult it is to bend a metal rod... or two? This bed frame contained two entirely bent pieces... lucky for myself magnito is near.... Had the bent bits not been attached to large pieces I would have attempted to send them back. I highly recommend this item is better inspected or packed differently in the future. Also, a strong hammer and concrete did the trick... so... here is hoping you don't need that advice.
