The Good:
--The item was packed very well. Besides the padding, pieces were boxed within the shipping box which made for some secure travel. A+
--The picture does it no justice. It actually looks better (darker and richer) than it is depicted by the Amazon photo. A+
--The padded seat is firm and is protected in plastic. I think you're supposed to remove it, but we decided to keep it on so it stays clean. A
--The hinges hold the lid all the way open or halfway so you don't have to hold it to keep the chest open. I like that. A+
The Neutral:
--Assembly instructions were adequate, but could be more detailed. It wasn't hard, but don't rush it. By being careful, you will avoid mistakes or having to backtrack. B-
--The lock works, but don't really on it for high security.
The Bad:
It's not really a pine finish, more like a pine veneer. During assembly, I noticed a small piece of the veneer was peeling back. A little wood glue fixed that. It doesn't detract from its appearance, but I thought I'd mention it. C
Verdict:
Worth it. This is by far the cheapest I've seen anywhere for a chest of this type. It's a good deal for the money. I would buy again if I had to. Look under customer images for my pictures.CROSS COUNTRY HAD THE EXACT CHEST AND THE OWNER SENT IT OUT ON MONDAY AND I RECIEVED MY DAUGHTER'S CHEST ON THURSDAY 2 DAYS BEFORE THE PARTY.
GREAT JOB, CUSTOMER SERVICE.. I AM IMPRESSED. THE CHEST IS BEAUTIFUL.
I originally ordered my daughters hope chest from Visiondecor who waited a week before my daughters 16th Birthday Party to tell me it was on back order and then cancelled my order. This company lost my respect and a customer.

This is a decent cedar lined chest. I'm happy with the product. However, the assembly instructions are horrible. Unless you build by profession, it is pretty hard to figure out what they are talking about. For example, there are "locking cams" which basically hold the entire structure together. One side of the locking cam has a crescent shape and the other side is a full circle with a slot in it. If you are not a builder, it is unclear which side of this thing goes on the inside and which goes on the outside. A one sentence description informing the user that the crescent needs to go on the inside would do wonders. The diagram picture was way too small. They should have shown enlarged pictures of how the different pieces fit together.
Also, they should have described how to tighten a locking cam instead of assuming we would all know that it had to be tightened. I eventually figured it out, but a very simple job ended up taking me a couple of hours.
There are two metal pieces which hold the lid and keep it from slamming shut. I think there should be a left hand and a right hand of these. I received two left hand pieces. I put them on anyway and it seems to function alright despite looking a bit odd.
I felt like a monkey playing with a tool set trying to make sense of their instructions (or lack thereof). Other than this complaint about lack of assembly guidance, the pieces did fit together well, and once I figured out what to do, the chest came together well and I am happy with the product.
If anyone from the company reads this, I will help you write more user friendly instructions. Shoot me an email.

I purchased this unit in January when in Yuma Arizona for the winter. On return to Canada (Edmonton,Alberta) the product was assembled relatively easily however the top panel lock #9 was missing from the parts. As Coaster do not have any retail stores in Canada I emailed them and received an automatic response i.e. acknowledging they received the message but no advice yet as to how I can obtain the required part.Hopefully they will direct me shortly as to how can get the required part.

I'm very disappointed. It says CEDAR chest, but in reality it is just particle board. Also, the locking mechanism does not work properly. I am planning on sending it back once everything settles down from the holidays.
