Sonoma Storage Headboard

I've been searching hard for a bookcase headboard, and I finally decided on this one. The product arrived in a timely manner, it was well packaged, and nothing was damaged. Assembly would have been easier had the individual pieces been labeled on the piece, not just in the instruction book. Nevertheless, I assembled it myself and it was relatively easy to do. (Though a word of caution about operator error: This bookshelf is not the stablest thing while assembling it, so make sure it won't tip over. Mine tipped over as I was attaching the top piece, and in the process, some of the plastic dowels that held the top molding in place broke in half! Once you get it completely assembled and against the wall by your bed, it is perfectly stable, however).

This headboard looks exactly like it does in the picture. It's not the greatest of quality just particle board covered with laminate. It does serve the purpose I was looking for, and the price is more affordable than most.

This headboard does not include hardware for attaching it to the bed frame, and you will have to drill the holes yourself. It also did not include any holes in the shelf part for running electrical cords through. If you want to put an alarm clock, lamp, phone, etc. on your bookshelf, you will have to drill those holes yourself too.

This item finally got to me in a box that was falling apart. It had several pieces that were damaged (whether by the shipper or just the flimsy box I don't know) when I received it. The pieces aren't labeled and the diagrams are very hard to follow. There are other companies with comparable items that make it a breeze to follow the directions. I wish prepac would contact one of these companies...

I bought this headboard, the platform for the bed, and a dresser from "prepac" for my 17 year old son. It is typical assemble at home furniture, but it is attractive AND it was shipped within two days. Wow, that's impressive; but, the combination was too large for his room.

Unfortunately, he took more than seven days to determine that it just was not going to fit, and so I called to see if I could return the headboard.

I was straight up at the onset that I had gotten this furniture more than seven days ago, and I was calling to see if I could return it and pay for shipping. Still in the box (never opened) all parts, hardware, etc. (well it is all there if they shipped it to us).

The first thing the customer service person did was tell me that this furniture only came in a set I didn't buy individual pieces and they would not take individual pieces in returns. . . I said, "yes, it did come in parts, I went through your line, and picked the pieces I wanted. "

"That's not the way it comes," she insisted, attitude starting to show.

"Look," I said, "Amazon sells it by the piece, and the more pieces you buy, the steeper the discount. I'm on their website now you can look for yourself."

"No, they don't."

Okay, I've already got it figured out, they aren't going to take it back, she's too surly, she's come near calling me a liar, even while I offer her proof of my statements. When she says she will check to see if they can return it, I say, "Thanks, and an apology for calling me a liar about how I bought it? In distinct pieces?"

"No, I'm not going to say that."

Ahh, customer service, you've lost me . . . Since February 26, I've bought 52 items from Amazon three of which were furniture; we're not talking $5 a pop here . . . I like to shop, pay, & have it delivered and I read A LOT! In fact, it is almost an item a day . . .

Amazon knows I'm a good customer, and in my years of buying from Amazon, this is the first thing I've ever wanted to return . . .

A "No", they wouldn't take it back might have disappointed me, but it wouldn't have completely turned me away from EVER shopping with this manufacturer again.

Surly customer service from Sunny California? Well, that will certainly stop me from shopping there again. Every Time.

While it is an attractive, functional and reasonably priced item, it is a real chore to assemble.

The parts are not marked, steps are missing all over the place, and in the case of my particular unit, certain parts would only fit backwards, leaving me to figure out an alternate way to get the decorative molding onto the front. The directions will have you turning this thing around in every imaginable orientation during the assembly, and you will be sweaty and frustrated from the first step. I bought an entire sofa sectional online that had to be assembled, and I did it in less time it took to build a simple headboard. How hard is it to mark your parts or include all the steps/parts in the directions?!?!

Also of note, the backing to the back of the shelves is black painted cardboard. It can be convenient if you want to cut holes for cords and such, but it's cheap looking up close.
