This desk came partially assembled (drawers already assembled with knobs, all of the bolts already had the washers on them, the top of the desk already came attached to the frame that holds the drawers,and the chair frame that holds the cushion already came assembled) so in terms of the desk, all I needed to do was attach the legs and slide the drawers into place. The chair was a little more difficult (the seat back and legs is one piece) but I needed to attach the cushion to the seat frame and attach the two front legs. The seat cushion doesn't have pre-drilled holes to attach the cushion, so you have to align it carefully before screwing it into the frame. The fabric on the cushion looks like a woven fabric with light and dark brown so you'll want to keep pets off of it or they'll snag it. The drawers have a cheaper bottom to them (I wouldn't recommend storing coin sets or antything heavy in them) but they're great for the basic office supplies and they are just about the entire depth of the desk, which is great. The top of the desk has a faux-wood finish and it is divided into four large sections/rectangles that make for a nice detail that extend until about 2" from the edge of the top of the desk. Overall, the desk and chair are very attractive and feel pretty solid. I'd say I spent about as much time unpacking it as I did putting it together so it took me about 40 minutes total. There is a lot of packing product so be prepared for a mess! I would recommend this set I'm using it for studying and I feel like I have a ton of room on the top of the desk enough for an open binder, notebook, open textbook, supplies and more.

Update by original reviewer: 04.18.13 After using the chair for 3-ish hours per day, the quality of the padding became noticeable; it really squished down and I can feel the edge of the seat much more than I could before. Also, I have had to tighten the bolts on the chair a few times since purchasing. It this the end of the world? No. I'm still happy with my purchase for the price but would have liked the chair foam to be of higher density. However, I'm no stranger to re-covering chair seats so I may just do that with just a quick trip to the craft store.

I'm very pleased with this desk. It is much larger than I expected. The measurements are 48" long, by 24" deep, by 30" high. It does not look like a desk that you put together. It looks like fine furniture, with a smooth finish, and simple and elegant. It is very sturdy and will hold a lot of weight. The two front doors are fairly large and slide smoothly. Each drawer is 16" x 15" x 2" and that's really enough space. The chair is comfortable and well padded. I haven't had any trouble with it becoming loose in any way.

It was very well packaged for delivery (and heavy), and arrived in perfect condition, 5 days earlier than promised. It took about a half hour to put together and was not difficult.

I bought one in black and one in cherry. I've had them for 9 months now, and both still look brand new. Of course I bought a cheap desk protector at Office Depot for the top when I want to write something.

Shop and compare. I haven't found anything close to this set for the price.

Very nice, solid little desk and chair. It looks great. The only problem is the manufacturer's packaging--it didn't really hold up to delivery, so I ended up with some scratches on the desk surface. For the price though, this is still a satisfying purchase.

It's okay. They look really nice...just like in the picture. However, when writing on a sheet of paper placed on the desktop, the scratches will appear on the wood. The chair is also not very sturdy. Every few weeks I have to tighten the bolts again, or the legs will come off. The drawers do not slide easilythey make a scraping noise when sliding them in and out.

Was easy to assemble, so that's a bonus. Only problem was the bolts to screw down the seat cushion did not come with the product. This was probably just a minor oversight. I bought screws from Lowe's...no big deal.
