Carolina Cottage Camden Blanket Chest

I bought this chest to hold a decorative comforter set that my wife and I got for Christmas. As usual, Amazon shipping was fast and free.

The chest arrived in six pieces the top, bottom, and four sides, two hinge stops, and two bags of hardware. The instructions are mediocre, but the installation process is pretty straight forward even without good directions. The chest is held together with screw-in locks and pegs. I found the holes lined up perfectly and everything fit together snugly. The installation only took an hour, including a few minutes for deciphering the directions at the beginning and 15 minutes at the end to to switch the hinge locks to the correct sides.

The piece is an attractive black veneer, which is what we wanted to match our black veneer bedroom set from Value City. The hinges operate smoothly and the chest sits flat on our wood floor.

The only have two criticisms: first, there was a little damage to the inside edge of the trim on the inside of the lid. Since it's on the inside of the chest, you can't see it, and I didn't think it was worth taking a star away. The second criticism is that it's made in China. I'm tired of everything being made in China.

Basically, this is an excellent value for a nicely sized, solid blanket chest.

The Carolina Cottage Camden Blanket Chest in Antique Black was purchased at an excellent price. However, the styrofoam packing used to protect the chest during shipping rubbed the components of the chest during shipping. This created at least 25 long very narrow areas on the chest where the black finish was rubbed off to the bare wood. We purchased the chest to give as a gift and time did not permit returning it. My husband spent over two hours with a fine brush and satin black enamel touching up those areas. This is not something that we expect with quality merchandise.

Hmm..where do I start? It was relatively inexpensive to comparable pieces of furniture, so I gave it a shot. I make it a point to read the previews and their advice has steered me away from certain products. They also, have reaffirmed my decisions for other products on occasion.

As I stated before, it was inexpensive, but I feel that I was given a very poor product for the money. The packaging was shabbly put together and the finish was very uneven. The instructions were very difficult to decipher (especially since it was calling out parts that were not even in the assembly). I managed to use a little common sense assembly skills from the past, but it's difficult when you don't even have the correct number of parts. I called the company, the gentleman seemed apologetic and said, "I'll send out the whole entire hardware kit so you'll have spares", which I appreciated. I decided to try to go further with the assembly process when I discovered that one of the side pieces didn't even have holes borred out for the wood dowls! Well, I called the company and was having another side piece sent to me, when I get a message the next day saying that they won't be able to get the piece/hardware out to me until mid-April....That was IT! It's on it'a way back. Next time, I'll not only read the reviews, I'll take heed to what they're saying.

Please do not waste your family's hard earned money on this product. The finish was terrible and the fits when assembled were worse. I did not expect much for the price; however, I have bought much more inexpensive type products that were far superior. If you need something that looks terrible to store a few items in a dusty dark garage then it might serve a use. If you actually want something for inside your house go somewhere else. We have furnished our entire living room with inexpensive items (IKEA) that looks great and is functional. This was actually the most expensive piece we bought and just can't express how bad it is.

I am so pleased with this piece. I purchased this piece as a blanket chest/window seat for my daughter's room. I was very impressed with the quality of the piece and very reasonable price. The color was a beautiful choice, although in the picture above it appears to be a shade of white. The actual color is more like an antiqued white or a brownish cream color. Very attractive and well made! It's Perfect.
