For the price this is a very good bargin and being it is made almost entirely of hardwood rather than pressboard makes it a double bonus. The only part that is not wood is the unseen back but it has the same finish as the rest of the bench.

Putting it together single handedly is a bit of a challenge and frankly I had to re-arrange the order of their instructions slightly. Although it comes with dowels you will want to use wood glue for best results and for a sturdy frame. I found that after I had it together and had all those hex screws tightened it was solid and did not wobble at all.

The finish is very close to the photo depicted which frankly was a relief and I feel comfortable sitting on it as it easily supports my weight. The underneath storage is roomy and why I bought it in the first place. I would buy this product again.

The assembled bench is great. The finish and material are good.

The problem is with the assembly due to the manufacturing quality. The milling on the doors isn't accurate (i.e. deep enough) for the hinges, so you have to wrestle with the doors to get them in place. The second problem is that the screws for the knobs are an eighth of an inch too short. BTW the rest of the assembly was pretty straight forward, but it would help to have another person to hold the pieces together.

The makers of this P.O.S. messed up 7 times. Seven!!! For one simple, small storage bench! Four of the nine wooden panels had flaws. Nothing was so messed up that I couldn't finish the job, but they definitely made the job more difficult and take longer, not to mention that the final product looks lousy. Note that none of these faults came with long and heavy use--the bench arrived this morning and I put it together this evening.

1) The bottom panel arrived broken, with one of the edges torn completely off.

2) Thumb-shaped areas of the bottom panel near the front (visible when doors are open) are not stained as dark as the rest of the piece.

3) A terrible job was done on the finish on the top seat panel as well. The finish along the seam in front is actually peeling off!

4) The divider in the middle is already split where holes were drilled for the dowels.

5) The corner on the front side of one of the doors is splitting off because the holes for the pivoting plates (hinges) were drilled poorly.

6) The holes for the knobs in front were too narrow to allow the screws to reach the knobs, and I had to gouge them wider with a knife.

7) The holes for the dowels on the various pieces are not well lined up, so it was a real chore forcing them into alignment.

This would have been a nice looking piece of furniture if only the manufactures had used a little more quality control. Most of the bench is real wood, and the staining is pretty in the spots that are uniform. It could really have looked nice, but it certainly doesn't as it is now.

I have written to Winsome Trading Company asking them to replace the faulty pieces, if they do, I'll raise my rating to 2 stars from 1.

I wanted a small bench to fit in a specific spot, and this one did the job. One of the doors is a little crooked, but it's hardly noticeable. Very sturdy bench, good rich walnut color, and looks expensive.

Okay, I love reading reviews on Amazon before buying stuff on here, so thank you all! I don't understand how people had trouble assembling this piece however, I did it by myself, or rather with the help of my three-year-old daughter. I agree it is helpful to have someone hold some pieces during the middle of assembly. The quality is great, much of the piece is real solid wood! Has a good weight to it and looks good and seems very solid. I'm very happy with this purchase and it is just the right size for the space in my entryway, not tiny, but not too big either!
