South Shore Shelf Bookcase, Cosmos collection, Black Onyx and Charcoal

I was looking for a piece that would hold all my home theater electronics as well as my movies, and this does the job. It's very sturdy, and looks great in my living room. Assembly took a couple hours by myself (mainly because there are so many pieces). There was one missing connector piece from my package but it wasn't necessary to finish assembling. There are a couple words of caution I have though if you are considering buying this item. It is heavy. It's over 100 lbs assembled, so if you are smaller person, I recommend having a friend help you put it together and move it. Second, the drawers have a stopping mechanism which keeps the drawer from sliding out completely. If you're planning on putting movies in the drawers like I did, be aware that the movies in the rear of the drawer may be slightly difficult to take out. Finally, the instructions aren't terrible, but make sure you identify connector and hardware pieces before you start putting it together. There are a couple pieces that look very similar to each other, and hard to identify. This piece does require some hammering of nails and a little tool knowledge, but nothing terribly difficult. Overall, I would recommend this piece if you're looking for something to hold your home theater components as well as media. The shelves (1 fixed, 1 adjustable) give plenty of room for whatever you may have and there are holes in the back wall for your cables. Good buy.

I was not happy with the condition of the box. It scratched the bookcase and did not protect the top portion damaging the back side of the bookshelf. I did not return it because it is a hassle, it is heavy and it was going in a part of my office that no one would see. It is entirely too expensive for what you get and made of "cheap" material, but you would know that from the price. Save yourself the trouble and buy something else.

Without a doubt the worst piece of furniture I've ever wasted my money on. It is simply not possible to assemble this monstrosity. The holes do not line up, the screws will not go in. I think it must have been manufactured either by madmen, or by someone creating an elaborate practical joke. Unless you're seeking punishment, DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE.

I ordered this bookcase a while ago and I finished putting it up today and I am soo happy! When I started putting it together I found out I had 2 missing pieces but I contacted SouthShore and they were good about sending the pieces and today is finally completed. Thank You I am so happy! The reason I love this furniture is because it has everything I needed, shelves and a few drawers, it is smaller than what I expected but that is alright, it serves its purpose. I hope it lasts me a loong time.

We ordered this bookshelf for its specific dimensions, and I was very pleased with the results. In regard to how it was shipped: my box did arrived very banged up. I was fortunate enough that none of my pieces were damaged like some other customers have commented. I unpacked the box and was displeased to see that the instructions were pretty long and that the images of the attachment pieces could be misleading you have to read the measurements of the screws and such very carefully because the smaller image is not necessarily the smaller screw read the dimension it's supposed to be and measure your part first. But I carried on since I was not intending to figure out how to ship it back! During assembly I did bust out the electric drill because the holes did not line up when it came time to attach the draw faces to the drawers. At that point I felt that I was doing enough work to build my own #$%@! Bookshelf out of lumber. But I did manage to put it together alone, I only had to back track once to attach two back pieces that they snuck into a step, and danced it into place in the room. The only part I wish was different is the drawer slides. They are plastic on plastic and could slide smoother. Overall, I am happy with the purchase. It definitely has a nice look to it, it seems sturdy enough for our application of holding hobby items, and it fits the space we had in mind. I would buy it again based on the sturdiness, price, and dimensions.
