The Sapphire Collection 8 oz. Waterbed Conditioner

Waterbed "conditioners" normally contain two kinds of chemicals-biocides to kill any little bugs that want to grow in the water inside the waterbed, and plasticizers to help keep the vinyl supple.

However if the concentration of plasticizers is too high, the conditioner will literally soften the water mattress, and cause it to stretch out and grow flaccid under your weight, with an accompanying strong "new plastic" smell. I've tried to use this product at the full recommended strength, and also a reduced dose, and repeatedly had this problem.

I recently bought a brand-new, quality semi-waveless mattress and put this conditioner in it when I initially filled it. Within hours the mattress developed a strong "plastic" smell it hadn't had before, and within 3 days the mattress lost its original smooth, buttery firmness and had stretched out. I had to half-drain it and refill with plain water in order to save it from being ruined totally.

The old Blue Magic I used to buy in the stores did not have this problem.

I like that it's factory sealed so I know I'm not getting watered down product. Yet it is smelly about the first week or so with a chemical smell that seems to come through the vinyl.

I stick with my waterbed as I have for the past 40 years.

This is a good solid product. Keeps the mattress material supple and any nasties which would have grown in there don't.
