Sonax W-001-LWB Willow 6-Drawer Dresser in Ravenwood Black

Sonax W-001-LWB Willow 6-Drawer Dresser in Ravenwood BlackWe have a TV room with two black home theater chairs. We needed to have some storage in that room, yet we wanted to keep a sleek modern design ~ also in black. It was important to us that the height of the dressers was relatively low as one of the dressers would be in between the two chairs & we wanted to be able to talk while watching TV. We also wanted it long, but not too long and wanted to have a matching dresser on another wall, which had space restriction so finding just the right size was very important, like finding a needle in a haystack!

We visited at least 10-12 furniture stores and could not find anything that came even close to what we wanted but we did notice that the prices for dressers were between $600 and $1000 and had extremely poor quality.

Then we found this Sonax dresser in black on Amazon, the size was perfect and the appearance looked just like what we wanted so we took a chance and ordered two for our room. Spending $600 on furniture that we had not seen in person and had to put together is not what we would typically do, but this Sonax dresser was perfect in size and appearance for our room so we decided to chance it.

We took the free shipping and the dressers arrived within a week via UPS and were put right into the garage by UPS. At first, the 4-boxes looked to be a very daunting task and I could only think of all the pieces inside those boxes that had to be assembled.

I assembled them and have to say the quality is far beyond anything we found in the stores & at 1/3 the cost. The size is perfect for what we needed and the appearance is outstanding for a small media room.

The drawers slide perfect on the ball bearing drawer slides, of all the dressers we looked at in the stores, not a single one had ball bearing drawer slides! Every screw, cam lock etc. that was required was included, There were no missing parts!

If I have any complaint, it is that the instructions are very basic and had hardly any visual enlargements of assembly details. The instructions could be much better as to how smaller parts are supposed to go together. For instance, the Drawer Slides, not knowing or seeing for sure which end goes to which side. An enlargement showing the end of the slide would have helped a lot. If you messed up here and installed the slides opposite of what they were supposed to be, it would take a lot of time to undo everything just to change the slide direction! The slides fit in the pre-drilled holes in either direction so make sure you know for sure which end goes where!

I took time to review the instructions very thoroughly and then looked at the parts so I had a pretty good idea how it should go together before beginning. Make sure you take enough time to look at the very "basic" assembly instructions and the pieces so you have an idea of how it goes together, especially which direction the slides are to be installed before beginning.

Everything inside the two extremely well protected & packed boxes needs to be assembled so don't think the dresser is partially assembled. The smaller box contains all the drawer pieces and screws etc., the larger box contains all the parts for assembling the dresser itself. The drawer slides do not come installed on the dresser sides or center divider, every slide has to be separated into two parts (simple) and installed separately but simple to do. If you don't have a power screwdriver or drill with variable speed, borrow one, your wrist will not make it past 1/3 of the assembly! Don't use the power screwdriver to tighten all the way as you could over tighten and possibly damage the pre-drilled hole. Tighten just enough with power screwdriver then hand tighten the final few turns. All the screws are the same size so needn't worry about sorting. The cam locks are large and small, but only the large is used for attaching the vertical sides and center. Pretty simple!

The pre-drilled holes were amazingly accurate and right on! The handles are a brushed aluminum, very modern and sleek, far better quality than anything we found on dressers in the stores.

All in all, we are "extremely" pleased and happy with these cabinets, we will be Sonax buyers from here on. Be sure you take note of the actual dimensional size as the picture shown tends to exaggerate the size.

Once you start assembly, it is actually very simple. It took approximately 3-1/2 hours for the first dresser including a little bit of time to go through the instructions. The 2nd dresser took about two hours to assemble at a very leisurely pace. Just make sure you have a good power screwdriver handy. Move the assembled dresser frame to your location before putting in the drawers, the dresser does get heavy once the drawers are in.

Jan. 17, 2013 Update:

Units are still working great for us. Want to add that when assembling, the drawer slides do have a fair amount of oil already on their surfaces, so be sure to have a couple or rags handy to keep your hands from becoming oily. Also have a large plastic bag handy to use as a surface to put these slides on, otherwise your floor/table used to assemble will get really oily! I used a couple of old card tables, 1-table for parts & the other to assemble the chest on, so I could sit down or stand when assembling....much easier than trying to assemble on the floor. I uploaded a photo of our small media room showing the two chests we purchased in place.

perfect for small rooms. really small drawers, but exactly what i needed for the space i have. even threw my 40" tv on top of it no problem

I came home to two boxes sitting in front of my door. They divided it with a good weight distribution (thank goodness, lol, it's heavy).

I took everything out of the boxes, divided everything up, and went to work. The progress on this was slow, at first, then my pace started to pick up. I started on a Saturday night at 6:30pm so my attention was on everything except physical labor. By 9:30PM I was done. It got to the point where I didn't need the instructions anymore. It said you needed two people to put this together. I'm 6'0" and 230 lbs. I handled it just fine on my own. The slides are a quality metal and well oiled. The wood that the dresser is made of is very nice, high quality. I like it very much. Make sure when you put the metal slides into the three boards on the first step, you pay attention to the direction you do this in. That is all. I am very pleased.

The instructions say that the construction requires two people but you can easily do it by yourself. some parts may seem loose while putting it together but once its actually all together, its a solid product. Well, at least mine was. It looks perfect!

This dresser is nice, fairly easy to put together, and decent quality. It came in a timely manner too. My biggest gripe is that it is extremely small. It is my own fault because I didnt read the measurements. I liked it. I just wish that it was bigger. It would work best for a smaller room.
