Franklin Buck Big and Tall Oversized Recliner

Franklin Buck Big and Tall Oversized ReclinerI'm a big and tall guy (320lbs, 6' 3"). I'm also partially disabled and cannot ascend stairs to my bedroom. I had been sleeping on the living room couch for the past year but it has been "murder" on my back. I decided to try a recliner that could double as a bed.

This Franklin Buck Big & Tall model, a power recliner, was on sale in my local JC Penny store for less than $550 and included free shipping and set-up. It's similar to most recliners only significantly wider, longer and much stronger. The seating height is also higher making it easier to stand from the seated position. The chair arms and back are overstuffed. There is a built in head pillow that is quite comfortable. In the reclined position you may need to "scoot" back a couple inches so that your butt rests in the chair break----this will give you the full support of the lumbar padding on your back. The power feature is quiet and quick and allows you to stop in any position. Note that this chair does not recline complete flat (180 degrees); your head and back will be elevated about 30 degrees at full extension.

There are only two faults that I can find. The power switch is difficult to reach when the chair is fully reclined. I need to lean over the side and stretch to find the switch. Second, the power controls are illuminated with bright blue neon lights (??). They can't be seen when you're in the chair but others in the room find them irritating and distracting (they stick out like a `sore thumb').

While not stated in the chair details, the recliner does have "wall saver" features. It can be positioned five inches from a wall. It's a nice looking piece of furniture that will fit in most decors. The chair ships in two pieces that easily fit through a 32" doorway. The chair back just slips into the chair base. It was delivered within a week of ordering.

JCP and the manufacturer, Franklin Furniture, offer a five-year in-home warranty for anything that can go wrong with the chair, including fabric, for $90. If, at the end of five-years, you have not made a claim they will refund the $90.

This is a nice recliner for the big and tall. It is comfortable and fits my needs. It's a great buy if you can find it for less than $600 in store. I'd give it a five star rating if it fully reclined and had a more conveniently placed operating control.
