If this desk didn't arrive so damaged, I think I would really like it. I would have to put the blame on both the shipping company AND on south shore because it definitely wasn't packaged well enough to handle shipping, but it also arrived with a huge taped up tear in the box, as well as other little tears that didn't even have an attempt made to tape up. The laminate on top of the particle board is chipped off in a lot of areas (more than I care to count), and has a crack on the underside of the desktop.

The desk is fairly easy to put together (assuming all the pre-drilled holes have been completely drilled out). One of mine was not, so I had to employ my chiseling skills which are unfortunately not up to par, but I was able to chisel enough so the desk could still be put together, even if the bolt sticks out more than it should. There were also two holes that were drilled completely through the desk top, when they were clearly just supposed to be drilled halfway (as the rest of the holes that held the same hardware were). Speaking of that hardware, I think the holes drilled for it were a bit too wide in some areas, which leads me to believe they may cause the desk to come apart at some point. However, right now the desk feels sturdy, but I have it on carpeted flooring, so it may seem different on a hard floor.

I also think the desk is a little bit longer than the dimensions state (bookshelf to legs dimension).

Again, if the desk wasn't so damaged, I would really like it. However, once it arrives in that state and you pull all the pieces out and see all the damage, it would be nearly impossible to package it all back up to return (and I can't imagine what the shipping would be; this desk is beastly heavy). I read on the review of the black desk like this that a customer used permanent marker to fill in where the laminate had chipped off, I don't think that's really plausible here, but might look better than just exposed particle board.

I downsized from 3,000 sf 4br house to 1100sf 2br condo. Space is at a premium. This desk fit perfect in the corner of my bedroom. The shelves keep everything tidy. It arrived in great condition, and surprisingly heavy. My 14 year-old son and I carried the pieces upstairs because box too heavy for us. He got the screwdriver, I held things in place, and we had it assembled in less than an hour. Perfect solution, Great project, and Fantastic Price. I have sent the link to several others suggesting them to purchase the same item.

I put this unit together in approximately 30-45 min's. The instructions were very easy to follow. It says 2 people are needed, but I only needed help lifting the table top into place.

I love this piece. My office space is in a high-traffic area of the house, so I wanted something that would look attractive, but allow me to organize our books, folders, and computer. I am very pleased with the unit itself. It is sturdy, does not take up much space, and is very flexible in regards to how you might utilize it in a room (mine is in a corner).

The unfortunate thing is that the box it arrived in is HEAVY. I imagine that the box was probably handled roughly, due to its sheer size and weight (a label on the box marked it as being over 70 lbs). Despite the packaging and styrofoam around the wood, there is a quite a bit of chipping on many of the pieces. Fortunately for me, the chipping is on the side that is against the wall, but that will not work for everyone.

Functionality and general appearance of the desk is 5 stars, but I'll rate this as a 4-star b/c I can't imagine that one would receive this box with the table intact with no chipping. Also, due to it's weight, it would be VERY difficult to return this.
