South Shore Step One Collection Platform Bed, Queen, Gray Oak

I searched for weeks for a bed, and originally planned to buy an Ikea bed that was sold out and wasn't coming back. Be warned, this is a bit of a rant review, and I never ever do that, so please fasten your seat-belts and use the headrest...

All said and done, this is a cheap bed, and is adequate for my desires/needs. Assembly wasn't difficult but service was a pain because my kit was sent with 3 legs that weren't drilled properly. Actually--they weren't drilled at all.

I contacted the manufacturer per the instructions in the kit as you'd expect: "If you have questions or problems DO NOT contact where you purchased it, call this number or email!"

I emailed.

I was told that I had to get my replacement parts from where I bought the bed.

I contacted Amazon and was told that they did not have access to replacement parts ( I was not surprised ) but they offered to replace the entire bed. It's a 130 pound long box. For 3 legs. That seemed excessive to stay home all day for UPS as I have no drop off on a city street, haul 130 pounds up, replace, try to repack the puzzle, haul back, etc. I just wanted proper legs.

All said and done, Amazon refunded the whole cost of the bed, the manufacturer is supposed to be sending me legs though I haven't seen them yet and no shipping info. Amazon also recommended that I could order a second bed, take the legs out, and ship the rest of the kit back so I had a complete bed. They also gave me $20 for the incident. I did order a second bed at my cost, which will be returned, and it hasn't arrived yet. I drilled the bad legs and while the bed has been slept in a couple weeks, I treat it gingerly as the first time I tried to move it closer to the wall, the entire bottom legs and board fell off... :x It's only a temporary fix until I receive the properly drilled legs.

A lot of times "one off" experiences like this don't figure in to my thoughts about a purchase unless a lot of people have the problem. In this case no one else has reviewed the bed, so I wanted to share my experience: Think twice before ordering large furniture online (I've since read other stories about problems with couches and other large things) and if you are willing to take the chance do so knowing that you may have some weeks invested in getting replacements or replacement parts.

Don't consider it a warning, just a little more information to consider :) I rated it 3 stars because, if I had received the legs properly I may have rated it 4. But I don't know how frequent this issue would be and getting it resolved what a semi-nightmare, so 3 seemed appropriate. Feel free to ask any questions below and I'll try to respond ASAP.

I bought the entire South Shore Step One Gray Oak collection for our guest room. It looks really good for the price paid, but I hate having to buy furniture that must be assembled. What a pain in the neck. It took us two days to get everything (bought 6 different items in the collection) put together.
