Poundex Cleo Dining Table

I've been looking for a small affordable table that seats four with a solid wood top and this one seemed to fit what I've been looking for. I had no problem ordering but it did come in two shipments. The first was the base, which is hollow and was not packaged properly so when it arrived, the base was cracked from top to bottom in two areas. I contacted Visiondecor and they immidiately sent out a new base to replace the cracked one. The second shipment came which included the table top, supports for under the top, and the legs for the base. The four supports that hold the table top were two different colors. There was one dark brown, which matched the color of the table, and three lighter colored supports. I contacted Visiondecor once again with a photo of the mis-matching supports and they sent out replacement parts as soon as it was available. Overall the table looks good, but they do need to package their products with more care. It took two months in order to get all of the correct pieces and was able to put them together. Visiondecor was very good about responding and taking care of the problems that I encountered.

I purchased this table from Amazon for $218.00 plus shipping. It arrived about a week after I ordered it, which isn't as fast as Amazon usually ships, but it was acceptable to me.

I would give it five stars except for the following:

1) The pedestal had a hairline crack about four inches long from the base running upward. This was not something that I considered worth the trouble of returning it. But I certainly am not the only person to have received damaged pieces, so just be aware that damage seems to be a continuing quality control issue with this company.

2) The staining on all four pieces of the supports for the table top was incomplete. Each of the four supports had a thumbprint sized bare spot (completely unstained wood) on the edge closest to the center pedestal. Again, since they're not ever seen, I thought it would be easier to just use some Old English Scratch Polish (which I already had in the correct color) rather than return the table.

3) I'm no geometry whiz and it took me a little bit of internet searching to find a plain English explanation for finding the center of a very large circle. And then I had to do a little bit more problem solving to figure out how to align the pedestal with the center mark that I had made. But, for $200 (which is the difference in cost between this table and the next least expensive comparable table), I guess I can put in a half hour of math. In the end, I figured it out, but I am still annoyed that the manufacturer can't do one more simple step in order to make assembly easier. Really, when all four table top support pieces are pre-drilled, why couldn't they just make corresponding holes in the underside of the table top? It couldn't possibly add much to the manufacturing cost.

Despite these problems, I feel comfortable in saying that if you want a decently built table, don't expect it to be heirloom quality, are competent with math, and own a power drill, you'll be satisfied with your purchase of this table. If you were hoping for heirloom quality, keep looking. But for the price, this table is MUCH nicer than any other assembly-required furniture I've ever seen. I'm satisfied. I just won't let my guests crawl around under the table.

This table is like magic, considering the price. Yes, it's the DIY kind you have to assemble, and sure there's a chance (as another reviewer wrote) that the parts may get knocked around in shipping. But luckily that didn't happen for me, the packaging seemed plentiful and nothing was damaged.

Before finding this table on Amazon.com, I'd shopped for a round, dark-finish pedestal-style table at many places both in-store and online. Having just moved into a 1920s home with a dining room (the old place didn't have a dining room) I was going for a certain "look" to go with the rich, dark wood trim in my new 1920s home. Also, I owned already four espresso-finish ladderback chairs that I needed to match. So I sought out a table that would be functional for everyday use, and casual (no crying over spilled-anything), but with an older, more classic feel. You know, nothing contemporary-looking, no metal, no lacquered finishes, no glass-tops, none of that skinny-legged spindly style that a lot of "bargain" furniture seems to go for; oh yes, did I mention, it needed to be a bargain! Most everything I found that looked about right, that had the right design elements, was priced in the $500 to $1000 range. WAY more than I could afford. If you have that much cash and more to spare, go wild -but I don't know why you would when you can get this great-looking piece at such a bargain. If I had kids, this is the table I'd get, because while it looks really nice, if they trash it, who cares?

As for assembly, it went together in a flash, just with a Phillips-head screwdriver. One person can do it.

The one complaint I have is that there were no guides to tell where to screw in the pedestal. Picture the table-top upside down on the floor, with the four legs affixed to the pedestal -now you have to attach the pedestal to the top with screws provided. There are no markings on the table-top -it's kind of up to YOU to properly center the pedestal. I laughed, put in mind of the excellent mockumentary film "A Mighty Wind," the scene where the Folksmen talk about the record label they were on? No hole in the center of the records, they would teeter crazily on the spindle, but if you got the hole just right you'd have a great old time! Ha ha! Well, we measured, I guess we got it "just right" because when we flipped it right-side-up, the base appeared to be centered and it didn't lean to one side or anything. It looks great. Some guidance would have been good, though.

All told, I'm extremely happy with my find. My chairs look perfect with it, and I can't wait to have my first dinner party in the new place.

Prior to buying this table, I had purchased and returned 2 different styles of Pottery Barn dining tables. They were definitely beautiful tables but were each defective in different ways and one table scratched very easily. They easily cost 5x the price of this table. I looked everywhere for a dark wood 48" round pedestal table that I didn't have to custom order and found this one. It is a very nice table and a great value! As other reviewers have mentioned, the pedestal is hollow so the table has a lighter look/feel than a table that is solid wood. I have only had the table about 2 weeks so I can't say how durable it will be in the long run, but so far all is good. There were some very minor damages on 2 of the legs when I received them, but Vision Decor's customer service was very nice, responsive and offered to replace the legs with no problem. I have not received the replacement pieces yet, but I am confident that I will. I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this product.

The table looks great! I did panic when I noticed the bottom of the table was not marked to where I needed to screw the pedestal. Had to do some measuring to figure out where the center would be. Some extra work, but I think I was able to get it right.
