Monterey 5 Drawer Chest

I don't recommend that you buy this dresser or any other product from this company. I received a completely damaged box of goods with wood that literally splintered when I tried to screw in the screws. When I realized that I would have to re-order about half of the dresser to try and start again, I decided that my time was not worth it. Then I read the fine print. Not only was I liable for shipping costs both to and from the store (very expensive since the piece is so heavy that it comes in two boxes) but I was also to be charged a "restocking fee" of 20%. Interesting in that they will most likely not be restocking my return as they will probably be throwing it in the garbage.

When I emailed to ask that I not be charged the fee since it was such a damaged product that I received, I was given no help from the apparent owner of the company. The customer does not come first and is definitely not right in the owner's mind. And if the owner is unhelpful and unembarrassed to sell such a defective product then that culture most likely permeates the company. If you have a problem with this company, you will be the one expected to fix it. In my experience, I am now paying over $100 to return a dresser that was listed around $150.

I've never been angry enough to write a negative online review (and I do a fair amount of shopping online) but this experience has been so frustrating that I had to let others know.

The material it used is really cheap and the quality is lousy too.

Three out of five drawer grooves are not aligned, four knods are defective and can not be fasten.

The profiled top has raised edge on the intersection. The cover paper is just like kid's sticker, could be easily peeled off. And, actually one of the drawer surface edge falled out after the assembly.

Well, it looks GOOD after the assembly only if you don't touch it.

However, if you are looking for something can last, or good quality. Don't buy it, not worth the $$

I like this chest; it looks great and the directions were easy to follow. However, it was still seven hours out of my life to assemble it, and perhaps someone with a better workshop ability would not take so long. I wish it had taken less time. In fact, I wish it had come assembled. Still, it's a good looking piece of furniture with great storage space, and I'm proud of being able to assemble it since I'm a mechanical nincompoop..

This product came with broken pieces. I did call the company, and they happily reshipped the broken pieces, but it took about 12 days when they said it would be shipped out in 2 business days. The materials are so cheap, the pieces break and crack when putting it together. It took about 3 hours to put together. Instructions are pretty clear. I am not sure this piece will last even a year. The dresser will topple over if it is top heavy, but they do give you a restraint tie to prevent this. However, depending on the location of the dreser that could require drilling a hook or something into a wall. Would I buy this again? No, I'd rather spend a bit more and get better quality.

The good: Shipping was quick, and the product was packaged well. It was also easy to assemble. The bad: The materials that this product is made out of are of very poor quality. Several boards split, even though the holes were pre-drilled. The plastic dowels that are used for the decorative molding broke easily, making it necessary to glue parts of the product. I would definitely NOT recommend this product!
