The pillow/chair itself is fine. It's more or less exactly what I was looking for (though it would have been nice to know that "smart max fabric" = "punching bag nylon mesh" I guess). It appears to be well made, and the beans inside it are made out of large marble-sized foam beans. My kids both absolutely love the thing. Unfortunately it REEKS! Seriously, it smells like someone soaked it in paint thinner before shipping it, and the god awful smell *transfers* onto anything it's resting on (bed) or resting on it (kids). This one was purchased with a specific purpose in mind using in place of a bed wedge after shoulder surgery if I buy another bean bag for my kids, I'm pretty certain I'll go with a cozy sac. Shredded foam may be heavier and not be as nice as pellets to lie on, but the removable cover and lack of stink make it a winner. Unfortunately they don't make a square "crash pad" style pillow.

We've been airing ours out for nearly a week and it still stinks our entire garage reeks of Big Joe at this point. If the smell subsides in a reasonable amount of time I'll adjust my review, though honestly, I think that 3 stars for an unusable stink pillow is pretty generous.

I have a pretty keen sense of smell and just opened up the new bean bag chair. I must say that it did not have any strong odor and perhaps the previous reviewer got one that should have been rejected by quality control. It is exactly what we expected to get and we purchased 4 more of them for presents. The fabric is pretty tough and should survive spills and physical punishment. We are waiting until colors other than slate are available to order more. The grandkids and nephews should really enjoy them. We will as soon as we can get out of them!!!

This bean bag is lightweight and when you change the shape it actually stays, very cool.

We've only had it for a week, but we love it so far. Oh and no bad smell.

I bought this product to sit on with my two babies in their playroom. I was excited about the multiple positions the crash pad could go in and thought it would be great for the kids to lay on and watch a movie, or sit in my lap to read books. When I first got the Big Joe, I actually thought it might be too full and too firm. However, within a week it went flat as a pancake. It was to the point that as soon as you sat down all the beans would got to other areas of the bag and you were left with your butt touching the ground. I went ahead and refilled the bag and that seemed to make things better. However, only two weeks later I am finding that Big Joe is once again deflating. I feel that if you pay 50+ dollars for a bean bag you should get a quality product. You shouldn't have to refill it every two weeks to keep your rear end off the floor. If it wouldn't be a totally pain I would have returned it.

I have to admit, there is a bit of a smell when you first get it. Almost like the process smell from the beads. I am 6'4" and I sit in it like its a chair. I love this thing when I am gaming. It's very comfortable. The smell is already out of it now and have had it about a month now.
