Dr Seuss Wall Decals Cat in the Hat

We decided to use these decals for my child's play room. We have used decals from various vendors, some from Amazon, as well as pottery barn (for kids). Overall, I haven't really had a problem with any decals, they are a great, long term yet not permanent solution for decorating. Basically, we are obsessed with this approach to decorating.

So with a good frame of reference to compare these decals, here are our conclusions after a few weeks.

Pros:

The colors of these are very nice, dark vibrant colors and clear lines.

The characters are all the recognizable ones from Dr. Seuss stories.

There are actually a lot more that come than the picture shows, so you get a lot. Our play room is about 11'x20', and we had no problem doing three walls heavily with characters (we weren't planning on putting them on the other walls, although we could have spread them out more and done it).

Cons:

Some vinyl decals use clear vinyl and print on top of it. This is what pottery barn mostly does with theirs. There are pros and cons (harder for manufacturer to get colors as vivid), but the biggest pro to this method is that you have no border. Frequently, with vinyl decal decorations, the manufacturer prefers to cut a 1/8" to 1/4" inch border around the picture because it gives a little give to the cutting vs. the picture tolerances (won't accidentally cut something off of the character/picture). With Pottery Barn's decals, the border is clear, so you only see the picture/characters (we did their Peter Rabbit theme decals, very nice). Very classy look, looks like they are painted on the walls. With this Dr. Seuss kit, there is a very noticeable white border around every character. In our playroom, one of our walls is an accent wall in a reddish maroon. You can tell that every character is a decal because there is a white border around each. On the opposing wall, it is offwhite, and you don't notice as much, it somewhat blends in until you get close. Again, with the Pottery Barn decals, they look hand painted (assuming anyone believes you can paint that well) or stenciled on because even up close, you only see the picture. Some manufacturers of decals won't even cut the pictures out and you are supposed to with scissors to avoid this problem. I suppose I could with these as well, but that is a lot of work and a lot of room for error. I would have preferred that these stickers have been printed without the white borders. If you have anything except some shade of white walls, beware, it may not look as good because you'll see a distinct white border around everything.

The characters are slightly small in some instances. Grinch, Horton, Cat in the Hat, etc. are decent, about eight inch characters, but some are just too small, like the Lorax (maybe 2 inches?), One Fish Two Fish (easily 1 inch), etc. I would have preferred fewer characters and had them all slightly bigger. We also have 9 ft. walls in this room, so they look even smaller. This is worth about a half star to me, might be a much bigger deal to some as I've read some that were very disappointed over this.

The price is a little high for the quality and size. Again, I like the color quality, but there are decals that give the same quality for cheaper, we just had our hearts set on Dr. Seuss.

Warning: if you have dusty walls, or uneven walls, or anything except flat paint, these might have trouble sticking for any length of time. Even on our walls, which are perfectly flat, newer flat paint, etc., they required going back over occasionally to get them to adhere. A lot of parents use semi gloss or gloss in play rooms because kids might make a mess on the walls, these will most likely not stick on these walls.

My husband and I chose a Dr.Seuss theme for the nursery and these wall decals along with a quote we put up look great. The decals were easy to put up and we're very happy with how this product worked out.

I bought this product to decorate my kids' bedroom. It was easy to use and they had fun helping add the stickers to the wall. I really like this product because we can look at the pictures and make up our own stories at bedtime. It also makes reading the books come more alive because they have the characters right next to them. I recommend them to enhance and encourage the imagination of the whole family.

I thought that these wall decals would have a translucent backing but the backing is white and it truely looks like you just have stickers on the wall.
