Baxton Studios Romano Convertible Sofa Chair Bed, Red

For over a month I searched the internet for a sleek looking bed and settled on this one. Putting it together is a breeze just 4 screws to attach to the base. The chair bed is wrapped in a zippered fabric that is breathable and appears to be durable. Also, the color is not bright red but rather a more pleasant pleasing red as there are very light black lines woven into the weave that tempers the red color. One would assume that one could remove the zippered cover and wash it, if needed, but trying to re-zipper the product, I suspect, wouldn't be that easy. The chair opens to a regular size twin bed, so it has plenty of space for one to sleep comfortably. One can convert the chair to a bed very easily (note that the additional two legs to support the product in a flat bed position are hidden under the zipper). The mattress is about 4" thick and has a "firm" feel to it. I assume that adding more thickness would make the product bulky especially when in a chair position, however if the designer of this chair-bed added another inch to the mattress, preferably of memory foam, they could have easily converted a good product into a killer product. I expected the metal base to be substantial but it is light and simple. The pillow, which is also draped in the same fabric (and comes with its own zipper so you can easily wash the cover) is also quite nice, and is a nice touch. This chair-bed does carry a slight premium to its price, but this premium probably covers the design, which is simple, yet sleek and boasts functionality especially where space is limited and one needs a chair during the day and a bed by night. I rate the product 4 stars overall. I would have rated it 5 stars if the price was lower. Alternatively, I would have rated it 5 stars if, for the same price, it had an extra inch of mattress preferably of memory foam.

I was looking for a very compact but stylish "sofa-bed" for my small art studio and this item fit the bill wonderfully! At 36" wide by 39" deep, this was the most compact I found and yet it pulls out to a nearly normal size twin bed (just two inches narrower than a twin mattress). It is easy to put together and easy to convert to a bed with hinged support legs discretely tucked away under a zipper in the fabric and actually embedded in the underside of the mattress. The fabric has a nice burlap-type weave, which you can't see in the online photos, and the color is a tasteful darker shade of red...not a cheep-looking bright red as it can tend to appear in some of the photos. As for the mattress, it is a VERY FIRM foam rubber, which may be a little too firm for some, but I like it as it better cushions the underlying supports and will hopefully hold up longer. This being said however, you may want to throw on a folded comforter or some other additional cushioning if it is used as a guest bed. If you are hoping to curl-up on it to watch TV without unfolding it, you may be disappointed, and may want to have a foot-rest nearby, but hey...you can't have everything! Finally, while we all wish things would cost less these days, Amazon did have the lowest price I found for this model online. I'm totally satisfied with my purchase.

It took me longer to crush the packing box than to assemble the chair. I agree with the other reviewer the bed is firm and I will be adding some extra cushion. The fabric is actually nicer and the chair wider than anticipated. First time I ever bought furniture online and I am more than pleased. Only downside might be that the chair is a tad low, which is fine for me at 5'2", but a taller person might find it unsuitable. Great stylish, functional solution for that extra bed!

Simple to put together, simple to use. Looks stylish and can be used for many different purposes. A bit hard to sleep on but with a little padding works fine and is just enough room. A keeper.

I purchased this for a small computer room where I have guests sometimes sleep. It's a great color,looks stylish, and take up very little room. It was simple to put together and is easy to set up as a bed. My mom-n-law slept on it and said it was firm yet comfortable. I've slept on it and agree it is firm....I slept wonderfully because I have a bad back and like firm. After researching couch/beds, I settled on this one and am very pleased with it. I wish it cost a little less but I think the price is worth it because it appears well made and not cheap quality. I would buy again and I would recommend to a friend.
