I'm compelled to review this cabinet because by purchasing it, I finally understand the value of "expensive" furniture. This was well out of my budget for the home theater project, but I decided to go for it anyhow since it's such a major furnishing in our main entertaining space. I am so pleased with the investment. This cabinet came pre-assembled (just have to screw on the feet/wheels)! The delivery was prompt and professional (in-home not curbside!) and worth every penny. This is a heavy, high quality cabinet.

Sure it looks great, but the best things about this cabinet are:

1. excellent door and drawer hardware! Soft close doors, non-slamming, kid-proof!

2. accommodates deep AV components, i.e. my DVD changer is nearly 20" deep

3. great design for cable management and optimized airflow

4. removable back panels for each section easy wiring/setup

5. hidden wheels easy to roll in and out for any cabling changes/additions

Like the previous reviewer, I'm not used to spending this kind of money for a single piece of furniture, but I have to say that I'm so glad that I did. It is high-quality through-and-through, and I'm particularly pleased with the warm, orangish glow of the Natural Cherry veneer when there is sunlight in the room. Be prepared for the fact that this beautiful cabinet grabs more attention from guests than the giant TV sitting atop it. The IR-friendly glass and the soft-close doors aren't bad, either.

It is of PARAMOUNT importance that other furniture manufacturers take note of the functionality that BDI have built in to this unit; the venting slats and built-in wheels should be the standard for all such furniture.

I would make only a couple of requests from BDI for future models, certainly not salient enough to warrant taking a star off from this review. First, although I would want to maintain the size of the overall unit, the height of the metal base underlying the whole thing should be cut in half, bringing the TV closer to eye height while seated. Second, I would have preferred to at least have the option of pre-installed, silent fans on the back of the unit, helping to move hot air away from the AVR, DVR & PS3. Perhaps these could be made available as a post-purchase option, including the 12V sensor cables that would allow such fans to turn on and off automatically depending on the power-on state of those other components. Those things are available from third parties, but as always, require some ingenuity in aftermarket application, as opposed to the seamless functionality that could be realized if BDI built these in to the whole thing beforehand.

This is a great piece of furniture if you like cheap furniture. This is not real wood. This pressed particle board.The design is good, that is the only that is good.
