The bed arrived in three separate packages: 1) headboard 2) baseboard and 3) wooden base railings. My husband was able to pretty much put this bed together himself with a little help from me. The instructions were all diagrams (no written words) but he was able to follow the photos and figure everything out fairly easily. There are options if you plan on using the bed with or without a box spring.We are impressed by the quality of the wood, screws, and just overall construction. Everything fit together really nicely and the screws didn't break or strip like in some cheaper build-it-yourself furniture. Overall, the bed is solid and looks very nice and more expensive than it should be.
We took away a star because the headboard was damaged during shipping. The top right hand corner piece was cracked and as a result, we weren't able to tightly screw in the top piece of the headboard. There is a small gap and the corner is slightly bent and cracked. I contacted Amazon customer service and they took care of us. The manufacturer should definitely add more styrofoam or cardboard around the headboard to ensure the pieces arrive intact without damage.
