South Shore Storage Full Bed Collection 54-Inch Full Mates Bed

We needed a full-size bed platform, and didn't want to schlep to the big, blue Swedish flat-pack store, which is a couple hours drive each way for us. The good news is that this South Shore bed was available via Amazon Prime, at a not-unreasonable price.

However, it is very cheap goods. It's made from laminated particle board, which I knew going in, but it's cheap, crumbly particle board. The drawer slides are plastic. The actual flat platform that the mattress rests on is thin ply-board, and putting concentrated weight on one specific area of the mattress (like sitting up, or a toddler jumping up and down) flexes the boards quite a bit.

The drawers are also pretty small, given the size that they could be. Also, the top edges of the bed frame are square (not rounded), meaning that when you swing your legs off the bed and your thighs hit the edge of the bed, it is uncomfortable because a relatively sharp edge is pressing into you.

Assembly was a bit of a chore, but not any more so than any other assemble-it-yourself furniture. It took about 3 hours from start to finish, working at a leisurely pace.

Overall, I do not recommend this bed, and would not buy it again. Instead, I would endure the long drive to the big, blue box store and get something a few notches higher in quality.

We got this bed for our four year old daughter as part of her new bedroom set. My husband was able to put it together in a couple of hours without much complaint. We got it into her bedroom and the mattress on it. My daughter loved it! I love that it is close to the ground and it does not require box springs. However, the next night her dresser was finished and we went to rearrange her bedroom. The bed was VERY difficult to move. There is no good place to hold on to it to slide or push it. We ended up opening the drawers so there would be a place to grab it, but then the drawers got off balance. Also, the drawer tracks are made of plastic. They seem fine right now, but hopefully they will hold up. The drawers are very roomy! A lot bigger than I was expecting! You cannot use a dust ruffle with the bed unless you don't use the drawers or mind having them covered up. I have high hopes that this bed will hold up for my daughter and be a great purchase!

Unbelievably poor quality. Expectations were not high in this price range, but what was provided is not worth assembling. Damaged particle board, drawer "bottoms" are extremely thin with damaged edges. It is clear these drawers would not hold up to even a minimal load, if one were able to assemble them. Packaging was destroyed of necessity to remove product, so return would involve purchasing adequate packaging for 7 ft items, althogh it would be hard to distinguish packaging from product. Even the adequacy of this structure to safely support a bed is reasonably questionable. The 500 lb. stated weight capacity is questionable in itself, but would probably be marginal even if met, if occupied by two adults and considering the mattress weight itself. Other reviewers concerns about drawer slides and flexing are obviously valid when seeing this assembly. Totally unusable; I expect to have to break panels in half to facilitate trash pickup. Not much challenge there, however!

I was so excited about getting this. Now I am stuck with something I can't ship back because of the box and can't use because the long white board with 2 holes is broken.

Drawers underneath were larger than what I imagined providing much needed additional storage. Bed itself does not take up alot of space which is perfect in our small bedroom. Finish on it very nice and fairly easy to put together.
