I wasn't sure I'd like an open bookcase like this, but I love it. The stain color is a deep, rich brown, but the design helps keep the piece from feeling too dark and heavy. It is solid wood, and the shelves are faced, making them appear substantial. The back of the shelves are faced upwards creating a stop to help prevent anything from falling off the back of the shelf. It was not difficult to put together by myself (middle-aged female), but I'm not sure someone who hasn't assembled furniture before would find the instructions easy to follow. I did crack one of the pieces slightly when tightening one of the cams. The only negative is the knotholes in the wood were not sealed well enough, and have oozed a little resin.Save 43% Off
