I bought the 3' x 6' mat, which works nicely in my little meditation cubby. The mat came double boxed for protection and was in perfect shape. It's solid but with a little bounce when walked on, and I love the slightly rice-y smell. All in all an excellent transaction.ok we hated our bed. had a mattress and a box spring hated it. My boyfriend has a herniated disk in his lower spine and read that Japanese mattress are the best for body support. he bought one of these in a twin size and was sleeping on the floor for years well I wanted him back in the bed so I shoved out about $1000 for this whole set:
Platform bed: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015VG0R0/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00
GREAT quality, NOT particle board real wood real quality.
2: Tatami mats: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WK745M/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
these were to most expensive part and they are truly heavy and made of great quality materials.
2: 3 inch thick Japanese pads http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009EEMH3Q/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
We wanted extra soft but support so two was perfect.
Comforter set: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005J3ODVK/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00
soooo warm, soft, pretty and great quality.
we also have a 4 inch thick memory foam pad under the pads we just had it around and figured we would use it.
This whole set is amazing. AND the mattresses work great with regular queen size sheets. It looks like a real bed but so much better. We even take our mattress pad with us when we sleep over other places.
ALSO: GREAT NOTE the bed is extremely quiet and sturdy. when someone rolls over gets up or jumps on it you can't hear anything or feel anything! its...again...amazing!Fantastic purchases. They came well packaged and quick. Keep in mind, these are heavy mats, coming in at about 50lbs. I'm constructing a tea room and they worked out well for my project. They do have an "earthy' smell to them; for those of you sensitive to such characteristics, I would let them air dry a while. So I got this for some random reason... can't really remember at this point. But it's pretty cool! The top of it is comfortable and smells nice. It seems to be pretty sturdy but there is some cardboard in it which isn't too noticeable, but when I saw it I somewhat questioned the build quality... Seems fine though.
Anyway, nice floor mat to put below my Samurai swords and/or use as a platform for a bed(with a futon cushion) for any guests I might have.
I'd buy another if I wanted to make into a queen size bed... :)A remarkable product. I had high expectations, which were exceeded.
Pros:
-Absolutely gorgeous, high-quality materials and an even color.
-The smell is wonderful! A cross between fresh earth and the natural materials used in the construction. I want to cut up the boxes and use them as air fresheners in my closets.
-Absolute comfort. Everyone who has taken a seat on the mat has immediately laid down and remarked on how they'd enjoy sleeping on the surface. It is very firm, but forgiving in just the right way.
-Relaxing. My wife and I were nearly lulled to sleep when we sat and laid down to test the new mats.
Cons:
-Slight cosmetic damage to edges during shipping. Hard to fault the seller since this is such a hard item to ship, damage does not hinder performance. If I could pick this up in person I would. Product was shipped in two overlapping boxes, about all the protection possible without increasing shipping cost.
-There is a definite (though wonderful) smell. I could imagine people with very sensitive allergies having trouble with the smell, although I personally have suffered from seasonal allergies and hay fever and the like for my whole life, and I have absolutely no trouble with this product.
I got two mats to test out the dimensions in my room, products were as advertised in all respects. I am definitely going to get the additional two and a half mats I need to complete the "idea" Japanese tearoom layout. Outstanding product, quality craftsmanship. Please support this excellent company.
