Tvilum Austin 8-Drawer Dresser

Tvilum Austin 8-Drawer Dresser, WhiteI bought this 8-drawer dresser + 2 night stands in white. I was able to put it together pretty easily as it wasnt too complicated. The dresser & nightstands look beautiful but they are sooo crappy as the drawers keep locking up on one side of each drawer. I don't know if it's becasue I dont open some of the drawers all the way.. that should not cause that problem. I hate that it happens.

Also, the legs to support these are cheap (plastic) and crappy and supposed to be attached on a double sided tape. Real crap, because if you set this on a carpet it will become pretty difficult to open up the bottom drawers.

Overall, i like the style but would not reccomend becuase of the drawer problem.

Took my husband a couple of hours to put together by himself, only issue he had was you have to label everything yourself which is kind of dumb but wasn't a huge deal. Went together ok, had our own thing of wood glue and he used it where ever he could just to make it a bit more sturdy and durable. It looks good and seems fairly sturdy. Not huge drawers but big enough to fit our clothes since we have a big walk in closet to hang up all our shirts and stuff.

I bought this unit in Cherry finish a while back. It took me many days of part time labor to assemble this thing. The issue is this there are 8 drawers. Each drawer needs quite a bit of assembly (drawer slides, frame, handles, bottom etc). Now multiply that by the 8 drawers and it will literally take you 2 full days.

If you are not fully upto speed with assembling this type of furniture, you will face the exact problem the one star reviewers are claiming drawers that don't fit properly, come loose and so on. In my case, I have been using this for the last 3 years and it has served me quite well. The metal drawer slides work beautifully. It is particle board furniture so it is fragile. But as long as you don't stuff more clothes than the drawers can hold and you don't put heavy objects in the drawers, they will do just fine. Since in my household, the master chooses to ignore these rules, I strengthened the bottom of the drawer with two strips of solid wood running end to end and fastened at the sides. Now she can stuff all she wants and not one broken drawer bottom.

There is one particular aspect about this chest that I really like no wasted space. Every inch is covered with drawers and you get eight of them in the bargain (most others with the same dimension manage only six drawers).

One aspect I wish were different is that the veneer should have been of a tougher type and more water resistant. I'd gladly pay more for such a product.

The instructions are pretty much useless. Nothing is labeled, you have to figure out every part for yourself. Not a big deal if you've ever assembled a peace of furniture before (i've done hundreds it seems). As soon as I tried to move this the entire thing fell apart. The screws all bent in half and broke through the cheap particle board. I had to use some screws from the hardware store and tap my own new holes to put it back together. Now the drawers don't fit right and have 1/4 inch gaps in some and to tight in others. The handles are cheap plastic and if you mess up putting any of the screws in to them, they will be stripped and useless. The legs on the bottom are just peal and stick, and fell off and would never stick back on after deciding to use this POS in the storage room where no one can see it. It's not heavy, but if you do decide to buy this be sure to have 4 helpers to move it, just to be sure not to flex the cheap hardware to hard.
