Skyline Furniture Southport Tufted Leather Bed

Skyline Furniture Southport Queen Tufted Leather Bed, BlackWe had to wait the full 5 weeks to get this bed, but it was worth it. For the price point that this piece falls in, it is a very well-made and great quality bed. Of course it had to be assembled it arrived in two boxes and I'd say it took my husband about an hour to put it together. But we did have to run to the hardware store to get some extra large diameter washers to secure the side rails to the frame. For some reason, they did not include adequate hardware for this last step. But Ace Hardware came through, and within 15 more minutes, the bed was done, and in less time that if we had contacted the company to provide the missing hardware. Overall, the bed is sturdy and doesn't rack (wobble side to side) at all like I was worried it might. There is even a center brace with a single leg in the exact middle, so the box spring is well supported, all the way around and in the center. The height of the headboard is adjustable, though it worked for us where it was out of the box. The tufting is secure and well-done, the leather has very nice feel to it, not cheap at all.

The only reason it's not getting a full 5 STARS is because the side rails (which are basically leather-upholstered panels that bolt onto the sides and end frame) don't quite mate at the outside corners. The panels are well-upholstered and finished and predrilled with the holes for the bolts and washers to secure them to the frame, but once you get all three panels attached, there is a slight gap between them at those two outside corners that widens a little bit vertically from top to bottom. That's really the only facet of the construction that makes it obvious that the bed does not employ a true footboard for the side rails to frame into, thereby hiding that joint.

BUT, this doesn't bother me too much, because: A) my teenage son whose room it's going in will NEVER notice this detail, and B) I was not keen on spending another $400 or more to get a higher-priced leather-tufted bed just to have that seamless footboard construction. If this is the only corner they had to cut in order to deliver a very attractive and sturdy bed, then I'm OK with that. Oh, and if anyone is worried about any material odor, there is none. I have a bloodhound's sensitivity to smells, and this bed has no material odors after unwrapping. Very pleased and it looks FABULOUS!
