Franklin Brass 9097SN Recessed Paper Holder, Satin Nickel

Franklin Brass 9097SN Recessed Paper Holder, Satin NickelI ordered a couple of these in satin nickel. The quality is great and the install is easy. They don't come with an install clamp, so you'll need to order one. I highly recommend ordering the Futura Clamp instead of the Gatco clamp, as the Futura has built in spring tension and is stronger and probably easier to use.

A couple tips:

1) When uninstalling the original in-wall holder, try not to unscrew it all the way. If you do, everything will drop into your wall. If you go most of the way, you should be able to wiggle all the hardware out.

2) Start the two screws into the clamp before attempting to install the new one. Then ease the clamp into the hole and align the holder. Finally, screw it all the way in.

Easy!

The new holder looks a lot better than the horrendous chrome (with plastic spool) that builders seem to like to put into houses. It's an inexpensive fix that adds a bit of class to your bathroom!

After a few days of use, I've realized that my "Big" rolls of Charmin Ultra Strong leave plenty of free space when new. I'm guessing that the "Jumbo" sized rolls will probably fit without issue, which is something I can't say about my original holders. I'll get some Jumbos and double-check my theory.

I got the Charmin "Mega" rolls and they fit without being too tight, though the "Triple" rolls, which are slightly smaller, would probably fit better. Excellent!

I researched recessed toilet tissue holders on-line and found that many were cheaply constructed, particularly the way the arms are attached. The arms on this unit are not hollow, but solid and firmly attached to the frame. This unit listed for $42, but I purchased it for $26. I think you get what you pay for; less than $20 buyer beware. I called my builder and asked if he had heard of Franklin Brass and he said the company had a good reputation. It was installed on the side of a bathroom vanity. It comes with a clip to retain it and for some reason the clip is sold separately and in my case from a different supplier. I was concerned that it might have a commercial look, but the polished nickel finish adds a little class.

It is very difficult now to locate recessed pieces such as the ones purchased here. These pieces are beautiful and an excellent tribute to the preservation of older homes. It's the details that really "make" the remodel!

Buying sight-unseen always leaves a little mystery about the subjective qaulity of the item, but this one does not disappoint. Nice thickness and finish (although I would have preferred choice of brushed chrome to satin nickel). Paper spring bar is metal, not plastic.
