Sauder Camden County 3-Shelf Bookcase

The bookcase looks exactly as advertised and I'm loving it ... however, please note that it really is a two-person job to put it together ... when I tried to do it on my own, I ended up breaking the particle board in a couple of the places where it holds in the round disk with the screw inside ... with some help from a fix-it man friend that was taken care of and we put it together, but with flipping it to get at the right angle ... more than once, it really does take 2 people! However, it is a beautiful and sturdy item and I love it.

The sides are attached to the bottom and top with locking cams. These are not the cams that grab a screw in the other board. These are cams with attached dowels that expand to hold themselves in the hole of the other piece. There is actually a step in the assembly that states you should not stand this up until the backing is attached or the bookshelf may collapse. The thin laminate/cardboard backing should not be load bearing. The support could definitely be better.

The shelves are beefy and look like they could support more weight than they are rated for, but that goes back to the first point above. As a note, the bottom shelf is rated for 30-35 lbs. The middle two are rated at 25lbs. The top is rated for 20lbs.

So far the shelf appears steady and I have it wedged in a tight space, so I am not worried about it falling apart. I have a lot of books on here, and I'm sure I'm over the limit. If the construction was stronger, this would be a perfect item, but I'll rate it at a 4 for now. Don't use this for a child if they are going to climb on it, or beat the heck out of it, but otherwise it's very good for the money.

I was really pleased with this bookshelf made by Sauder. It's strong, not hard to put together (but also not a snap), looks really nice and I have confidence the shelves are not going to bow under the weight of the books in it.

This bookshelf came as described. The only thing I have to complain about is the time/effort it took to assemble it. It is very sturdy!

We ordered this bookcase for our home office. We have a variety of different sized and different weight books. The shelves on this one are super thick and will hold very heavy books. The parts fit together easily and none were missing as with some other manufacturers. It took us about 1 hour to assemble and we were taking our time. The finish is very nice and the bookcase does have a furniture like look to it. Well worth the money!
