SilverRest Sleep Products Therapeutic 8" Inch Suede Memory Foam Mattress with Cool AirFlow, Made wi
I kind of rolled the dice when buying this bed. I did a bunch of research, but couldn't find much on this particular mattress. I went with this one because of the price and firmness. So far, it is wonderful. I have back problems and they have almost vanished after I started sleeping on glorious bed. It is extra firm, but if you have a bad back, that is exactly what you need. And unlike other memory foam mattresses I read about, this one only took two hours to return to it's full thickness and was ready to sleep on the day I received it. My girlfriend does notice the chemical smell, but it is very faint. Take the cover off and wash it as soon as you get it. Also the cover is extremely easy to get on and off. I am 100% satisfied. Wonderful value. This mattress came well wrapped and is a little firm. If you don't mind a firm mattress, it is perfect for the price. I sleep pretty soundly on it, did take a week to get used to.This product utilizes a relatively dense 5 lb. memory foam on top, so, as some other reviewers have said, this is a firm mattress. A few months ago I purchased a 2" topper of 3 lb. memory foam to try out -I liked it, so I decided to buy a full memory foam mattress. I figured I'd go with the 5 lb. foam in an 8" mattress in hopes of increased stability & durability, and if it was too firm I could pop on my topper without making it too thick for normal sheets. That is what I have ended up doing. I'm 6'1" and a little over 200 lbs., and the 5 lb. foam on its own was just too unyielding for my liking. With the addition of the less dense topper it's very comfortable. No odor issues upon unpacking and it plumped up to full size quickly. One complaint about the packaging: it arrived wrapped in plastic only -no box -and somewhere along its journey from California to Pennsylvania the plastic was punctured, resulting in a small tear in the mattress cover (fortunately on the bottom). Overall, though, the mattress seems to be of good quality and a good value for the money. My husband and I only slept on this mattress for a few days now so we'll see how it goes. I like the fact that it is very firm. You can't tell whether or not someone is moving on the bed, but if you have sheets that tug and pull, then you can feel your spouse or partner moving. When we first received this product, there was a rip on the cover. It was no biggie. I patched it up before washing it. There is a slight smell, but just let it air out and it should go away. I can't predict how it will be in five years, but so far I have no complaints. It was also a really good price. If I tell you what I did with this mattress, you will think I'm crazy, but since this is a review and I want to let you know how supportive this is....here goes. I have an aging English Mastiff dog and I was looking for the ultimate orthopedic dog bed. I've seen some on the market, but just not what was really up to my standards. So it was time for me to get a little creative. My dog has the "Beasley's Dog Couch" bed. The "mattress" it comes with is this chinzy thin egg crate insert. My English Mastiff is on the small side at 140 pounds, but there is no way that some 1 1/2" thick egg crate is going to provide any pressure relief for an aging arthritic dog laying on the floor. I had previously taken a cheaper memory foam twin mattress and cut it down to fit inside her dog bed zippered lining. It worked well enough, but as her age increases, along with her arthritis, it was time to pull out some bigger guns. So, I bought this mattress, and YEP, I cut it down to fit into her dog bed. This bed is really thick and it was no easy feat. My hubby had to get some heavy duty cutters out of the garage to get the task done and it took the two of us to do it. Not only is this mattress thick, it's heavy. As for myself, standing 6 foot at 160 pounds, I can stand on this mattress and my feet will not sink to the floor. Talk about support for the dog, it's just everything I wanted it to be and then some. I will agree with some other reviewers that it is a very firm mattress, but that's what I wanted for my beastie. The mattres has enough give to make it comfortable for her, but supports her entire body. My dog couldn't wait to get into her bed and we had to shoo her away, a few times, before we could even get the mattress completely into the liner as she had a small trial laying on it when my husband had put it on the floor in the bedroom before I had finished washing her dog bed cover. I apologize to the manufacturer for my horrifying deed of cutting this item up and for what may seem like a demeaning use of a wonderful mattress, but my dog is my cadillac on legs and there isn't a lot I wouldn't do to provide the best for her.
